Cleaning and Use of your Nalgene Bottles

Cleaning your NALGENE Bottles

Here are some suggestions for cleaning your NALGENE Bottles and Containers:

1. Soak in warm soapy water
2. Soak in warm water with lemon
3. Soak in warm water with baking soda
4. Wash in dishwasher (away from the heating element)

If your NALGENE® containers take on a slight plastic odor or an odor from something being stored in your container too long, one of the general cleaning suggestions listed above should remove the odor. If not, try the following:

1. Roll a piece of charcoal briquette up in newspaper, put it in the NALGENE® bottle or container and screw the cap on.
2. Leave charcoal briquette and newspaper in bottle or container for a few days.
3. Wash in dishwasher (away from the heating element), or with warm soapy water.

Over time, staining may occur in the lighter bottles and containers. To remove stubborn stains:

1. Fill the bottle with a mixture of 1 tablespoon bleach to every cup of water.
2. Let it stand overnight.
3. Wash thoroughly with warm soapy water or in dishwasher (away from the heating element).

More Detailed Proper Use and Cleaning:

I. NALGENE Closure with Compass

The NALGENE Closure with Compass is a simple directional finding tool. Please do not place in microwave or dishwasher.

Example of how to use the Compass:
Find a direction…let’s go West!

1. Hold the closure with the direction arrow on the closure pointing away from you.
2. Turn the numbered azimuth ring and align the W (270°) with the direction arrow on the closure.
3. Hold the closure/compass level and rotate your body until the N indicator on the compass disk aligns with the N on the numbered azimuth ring. You and your direction arrow are now pointing West.

II. NALGENE Cantene(TM)

To ensure the Cantene does not get damaged out on the trails, in the backcountry or wherever your travels lead you, take precautions not to set it near any sharp objects. When freezing the contents in the bag, always adhere to the "fill line". This will ensure that it will not burst or tear from expansion of the frozen contents.

Clean the Cantene with warm water and soap. A scrub brush may also be used to clean the Cantene. Leave the cap off while drying and during storage.

III. NALGENE Cantene(TM) Wide-Mouth Tubing Accessory

Directions for Use:

1. Screw cap firmly onto Cantene.
2. Place Cantene cap down in backpack or carrier. Bring tubing up and out of backpack or carrier.
3. Attach black clip to clothing by flipping middle piece closed.
4. Bite down on middle of bite valve and draw the contents up to drink. After a few uses, bite valve will become more comfortable to use.

Cleaning the Tubing Accessory:

Note how the parts fit together before taking this product apart.

1. Remove cap from Cantene
2. The bite valve can be cleaned by removing the blue silicone rubber piece from the black plastic piece, then removing the black plastic piece from the tubing.
3. To clean the tubing around the cap and elbow joint, peel away the tubing and slide it off the elbow by moving your fingers from side to side (this will be difficult because of the friction fit of the tubing to the elbow). You may choose to trim the tubing and reattach.
4. Clean with warm water and soap. A brush may also be used.
5. Reverse above instructions to reassemble.

IV. Cleaning your NALGENE GoCup(TM)

To clean, remove the EMPTY inner bottle from outer measuring cup: Holding the NALGENE GoCup(TM) horizontally, grab with one hand around the neck of the inner bottle and with the other hand grab the base of the outer measuring cup; PULL in opposite directions to separate. Once the cup is apart, clean with warm soapy water (dishwasher safe away from the heating element).
